Google tells me every Weebly theme - even an EMPTY website - loads very SLOW !!!

My site gets a poor rating from thinkwithgoogle.com/feature/testmysite. Thinking it was my content, I created a COMPLETELY NEW EMPTY SITE at another domain I own, except for an empty home page of course with a title.  Every single theme I published as an empty site (and I tried dozens) rate OVER 4.6 seconds, which get a POOR rating according to google. Most are 5.5 to 6.0   Google here is emphasizing load time over a 4G connection, not anything like a 200MB ethernet line.  Of course they are great on desktop, but on 4G cellular they are horrible.

Can you please address what may be wrong?  And can Weebly work on some themes that load quicker?

Thanks

Google shows even google as "avarage" and thats literally a white page with only their logo on it.

What does that tell us.

Hell, if i put in their own developers.google.com site its already ranking it Slow Smiley Very Happy

According to google (dependant on which google speedtest website is being used) my website according to them loads and becomes interactive between 5-11 second with 4g.

Tested that with mobile devices with 3g (so not even the faster 4g) in both EU as well as US with fully clean browsers (no cached stuff) and the site simply loaded within 2 seconds and was instantly interactive. Im really not sure what microwave they have that calculates all this or whether they somehow screw up the numbers when stuff is being loaded in on the background regardless of the visible site already being loaded in.

Friend of mine has a simply blog website on wordpress hosted with a different host, same "slow" rating.

So ill be honest ... there are some things i trust Google (Or a few other website speed tests tbh) with. This isnt one of them ;D

Not to mention that a good few of these sites will tell you stuff like a GDPR banner are to "taxing" and should be removed .. even though its legally required for for example EU 😜

The only usefull information you can have about your website is how much MB it needs to load and the amount of scripts you have running on the page...

both of which should be very minimal unless youre either throwing 4K picture in jpg format on it (i would say.. always resize it down to the size you want before adding picture to a website and preferably use a small fast-loading format like webp) .. or youve got 60 local weather addons showing everything from the temperature of the dirt to the size of clouds... which probably isnt the case.

I agree with what said by others above, although there are a few issues that could/should be addressed by weebly to improve pagespeed.

As a matter of fact amp and proper caching policy would help a lot and they are both features absent in weebly environment.

That being said, I stopped running Google experimental tests when noticed that all asynch codes (including adsense ones) where marked as blocking the main thread, that is clearly not the case.
