can't seem to ad google adsense to my blog

I click on the google adsense icon on the left under "more,"  I drag it to the blog screen on the right, and it floats off the page and nothing happens.  Sometimes, a window pops up that says "loading," buffers for about 2 seconds, and then it goes away and there is nothing.  I really need to take advantage of this feature for my blog to be successful.  Thanks

ETA:  Been looking for info to trouble shoot.  Do I need to publish my blog first to solve this issue?

Are you trying to add it to a post or to the sidebar/header of your blog, @jenjenstepmom? If it's a post, click on the post, then drag the Adsense element over once you're editing the post.
