Class Action Lawsuit seeking fellow victims of Privacy Protection Scam

I bought a URL around 6 weeks ago and decided not to put on privacy protection since I wasn't sure if I was going to use the URL and I haven't paid for it in the past buying URLs from companies like IPOWER and Go Daddy so didn't realize what was in store for me.  The next morning my phone started blowing up with phone calls, my email inbox was flooded, and I started getting junk mail.  I put on Privacy protection right away, and yet the phone calls and threats keep coming.  It would be one thing if it was just marketing offers, but I've had at least 5 or 6 phone calls telling me there is a warrant out in my name, and the stress is unreal for something as simple as a $10 upcharge.  If it was $1 or $2 and not 50% of the price of the product it would be one thing, but they've proven their point - there is no way in hell I'd ever not ad it in the future, but it also seems like extortion if this is what happens if you don't ad it.  I'm so stressed and I've already lost one job from this as I work in the film industry as a freelancer and if I don't answer the phone I miss the job.  I didn't even notice a message from a job offer till the next day due to how many phone calls I got.  If you are also having these issues and stressed out and would like to join in on my class action please email me at: weeblyclassaction@gmail.com

Not sure why you are taking aim at Weebly - personal information in the WHOIS database is required by ICANN - the WHOIS database is by law open to any member of the public who wants to find information thus you receive all the spam etc. that follows.   Most registrars offer this protection - some may include it in the domain registration fee for the 1st year, others consider it a value added service and charge accordingly - there is no set fee.

If you don't want to pay the extra fee to Weebly then search around for a registrar who offers it at a lower cost and transfer your domain there - you are quite free to transfer your domain to any registrar you wish.

There's a nice article here - http://www.networksolutions.com/education/you-need-private-registration/ .

ICANN itself is looking at the privacy issues as well so some changes may be coming down the pike - https://whois.icann.org/en/privacy-and-proxy-services
