Issues with exporting, editing and importing item libraries into Square
Ive been having issues understanding exactly how the Bulk Editing works for excel spreadsheets downloaded from Square.
1. I Download the Excel Spreadsheet
2. I add new inventory
3.I edit existing inventory by adding more items to current stock for a particular item
4. I save the changes
5. I import the excel file and click on Modify and Update existing items
the end result is that it removes any existing stock count and replaces it all with just the single item I wanted to add to the current count.
This seems to be more the behaviour I would expect when "replacing" not "updating existing" items.
The end result now is I have over 100 products that are no longer matching my inventory count.
I saved a copy of the original exported Excel Sheet, but I lost the time I put into this already lol
Can someone please look into this issue? 🙂

Just to clarify here, are you making any additional changes to these items other than the amount of inventory?
This is certainly unusual, especially if you have followed our recommended steps for importing items online and you have selected Modify Item Library. We would expect your existing items to be updated and the new items added.
We can suggest reviewing our troubleshooting guide which serves as a quick checklist to ensure you have formatted your file correctly prior to importing.

Yes im also adding new lines of products to the bottom of the spreadsheet.
something tells me i need to do updates and adding new products separately in two different exporting/importing sessions which i hope is not the case. 🫣

Hmm, I'm not running into any issues testing this with an existing item while adding a new item in the same import on my end, @Willar.
Have you imported items prior to this, or is this the first time you've tried to import items?
Before you attempt to import changes to your library it is recommended you export a new copy of your item library in the new file format. If you need to revert to a recent version of your Item Library, you can undo an item import from the Items page of your online Square Dashboard. Navigate to Item Library > Actions > Undo Catalog.
Otherwise, definitely reach out to our Support Team here so they can take a look at this with you.

Ive done this quite often and ive noticed every so often the inventory no longer matches my physical inventory count. Sometimes older items that were sold out reappear as available and i end up having to process refunds.
its hard to pinpoint when it happens exactly but it does seem to happen periodically.
