"Categories" isn't working in online store?

I've set up 4 categories, following directions in online guides, but there are a couple of problems:  (1) "Categories" option is disabled in page editing; (2) can't link categories to anything; (3) get no display when I go directly to a category and request preview.  Help?

Are you using the Order Online page? Adding category pages is disabled when you use that template.

Hi, and thank you!  I've disabled the "shop online" feature in the store so that online sales can't be made but that hasn't solved the problem.  In fact, nothing comes up for sale on the "Shop Now" links on standard pages.  

I've set up categories across the navigation bar and linked those to landing pages for each category (e.g. Halloween decor in the nav links to Halloween decor (standard page with a "shop now" button), and I've set up a "Halloween" category from Halloween items, but nothing displays.  Not individual items, not collections. And there doesn't seem to be any way to link the category to its landing page.  What am I doing wrong?
