chip reader keeps saying establishing secure connection

my chip/magstripe reader (the model that plugs into the earphone hack) keeps showing a message that it is establishing secure connection.  as soon as it is connected it indicates ready to use as a magstripe reader.  It is charged

This sounds like there might be something weird going on with this Magstripe and Chip Card Reader. I recommend filing a warranty claim for this reader if you are still within one year of the purchase date.
