not all android devices are supported by Square since there are 10,000 or more versions of hardware out there. this is an ultra-generic tablet that has been bargain discounted at Aldi. none of the pages I can find list what version of Bluetooth it has and it has to be Bluetooth LE to work. I could be that it just doesn't work with the Square app as there are a lot of devices that can't.

@storywild Hmm are you running Android 5.0 or higher on your Galaxy S7? How did check that your device wasn't rooted? If you are running Android 5.0 or higher please try these troubleshooting steps for the Point of Sale app.

I am. Running 8.0. I installed a root checker app that had the highest reviews and it prompted me to root my phone as it saud none was detected. Thus far, nothing has worked. I tried all of the steps in the troubleshooting article. 😞

That's so weird @storywild. I know this is kind of the nuclear option, but have you considered doing a factory reset on your phone?

Hi @Blackbearcoffee - I've moved your message over here because it looks similar to this post. This message appears when a device is not supported. See @VanKalkerFarms's response above.

I keep getting an error message. "Device not supported" rooted devices are not supported. What does that mean ?

Hmm, it sounds like your device might not be supported @User111. A few other sellers have experienced this too as mentioned in this thead. You can check if a phone/tablet is supported from the Square Device Compatibility website.

Im having the same issue. Ive tried 4 devices all that are on squares official list of compatible devices and only 2 work. I have 2 Samsung s8 (1 is compatible and the other isn't and both were brand new). I have a Samsung s4 (not compatible) and a lenovo tb7304f tablet (compatible). I need it for 2 chip readers (separate businesses) hence the 2 Samsung s8 but its saying the same thing as the other people. That the device is rooted. How do we fix this?

Hey @Jenna1 - have you tried a factory reset on your devices yet as suggested in the thread. Seems like there might be a of security feature that's blocking the connection.
Let us know.

Really struggling to connect my devices with the square reader. It is saying the device is not supported and that rooted devices are not supported.
I have tried to connect to my 6mo old Vivo S1 and also a brand new Lenovo (duet i think?) tablet running Chrome OS 87.
Neither is connecting and I have attempted everything listed in troubleshooting as well as updating everything, rebooting, and reconnecting. No joy.

Hi @SmartMoveAH and welcome to the Community.
If it's stating it's unsupported- that would mean it's not supported with the reader.
Troubleshooting won't work since the device is not supported. I'd recommend seeing what device you can use here from the Compatibility page.
