Troubleshooting - Scanner not bringing up item in Square app

I'm just getting started with Square. I uploaded my inventory via a CSV file. When I scan an item at the POS it adds a 0 to the front of the sku and tells me that it can't find the item. I went into the Square backend and added a variation to the item -- a second barcode attached to the item with a 0. I scanned the item again and it is able to find it. But I don't want to have to go into each item and add a variation SKU. That's too much work. Can someone help?
