I cannot turn sales taxes on because it says that my phone needs internet connection needs to be turned on

The Square app does require an internet connection at all times to function properly. This can be either a Wi-Fi connection or a data service on your mobile device (such as 4G or 5G).
Were you able to make the changes to your sales taxes once you got back online?
If it’s a case that you do appear to be connected to a network when you see this message, I’d suggest checking that both your phone and the Square app itself are fully up-to-date. You can find guidance on updating the app, and a link to check that your phone meets the required specifications for compatibility with Square, here.
If you continue to have trouble with this, just let me know the make and model of your phone, and we can dig a little deeper.
