Old Chip Reader Declining Payments

I have been attempting to manually process a credit card payment with my old chip reader. The payment has been declined. Customer says her card is good. Could this be because I'm still using the old reader?

There are few different reasons a payment can fail, @Angieslocs, but we will not decline a transaction based on the Reader model!
