Lightning Square Reader and iPhone 14 Pro
I am having an issue using the lightning magstrip reader with my iPhone 14 pro.
When I connect the reader, the screen constantly flashes the message “Is this lightning adapter connecting a pair of headphones?
If you switch devices, you can update this selection in the Sound and Haptics section of Settings” and two options, “other device and headphones”
This screen will constantly flash for a fraction of a second and not let me press any button or use the reader
I have tried updating the app, removing and reinstalling and cleaning out the lightning port
The reader works perfectly fine on another iPhone 11 but short of resetting my entire phone, I cannot figure out why this is happening

Hi @CoolCatCrafts - I see this is your first post in the Seller Community so I'd like to officially welcome you! 🎉👏
I double-checked the Compatibility Page and the iPhone 14 Pro is compatible with the Square Magstripe reader with lightning connector. I suggest starting out with the troubleshooting steps listed here. If this doesn't improve things, please reach out to Support directly by logging into your Square account and heading here for further assistance.
I hope this helps!

I know I am late to this, but for some reason Violets Steps say Here and do not show Here as a Link and the Here is all in black regular text but is actually a Link in her message. The blue letters in my response takes you to @_Violet s steps. This is for you and anyone else looking for the Trouble Shooting steps.

Hello there @kirkl6911
I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your Magstripe reader. Have you tried @_Violet's suggestion above?
If those steps didn't help I recommend reaching out to Apple, so they can perform tests on your Lightning port.

The troubleshooting steps did not work. What else can I do? I have an iPhone 14plus and keep getting the “are you connecting headphones” pop up.

I had the same problem. I contacted Square as described in the steps and did everything they asked. They sent me to apple. I did what apple asked, didn't work, and the advanced tech's phone call was disconnected and no one called me back.
As a sheet twisting in the wind, I decided to give it a try to see if it'd still take a payment with the hardware while it flashed this message. I inserted the reader while not in the app, was able to selected other device and lo and behold no more flashing message. This was too simple to fix and no one knew what to do.

Thank you so so much for this!!! What a life saver!!! It worked for me. I’ll have to remember to always insert reader before opening the app.
