Issue using DS6707 with Android w/Square Reader App

Hi, I recently purchased a Zebra DS6707 barcode scanner to use with Square app on my Android device. I am using a Samsung Galaxy A32 5G, and a USB OTG adapter, running Android version 11. My DS6707 scanner does not register in the Square app, even though it turns on when I plug it into my phone using the adapter.

I have tested my OTG adapter and it works. The issue is that the Zebra DS6707 scanner does not work with Square app, and whenever I try to scan a barcode or look in the Square hardware settings, the scanner does not register or show up.

I'm having the same issue..

moto g7

android 10

zebra ds6707-sr20001zzr

square app says no compaible scanners recognized.  I'm able to use another 1250g scanner with the same setup and that scans bar codes properly.

interesting thing that I noticed is that when i plug in the ds6707, android asks me to "configure physical keyboard".  i don't get this prompt with the 1250g.  I can press the trigger on the ds6707, it recognixzes the bar code, the green light goes on, but nothing is registred in square app.

If i play around with the different usb device types, i'm able to get square app to recognize the scanner, but then it won't scan any bar codes.

I've been working for hours and hours with square tech support on this.  Still no resolution.

Their closest guess is the OTG adapter.  I have tried 3 of them and they all failed.  So I asked them When I asked them which OTG adapter was certified to work with the DS6707, they couldn't answer me.  Then how was it certified as compatible ?  Maybe I just got the first level tech support.

I was bounced around to 3 other people..  but then 6p PST rolled around ( I had started my cha at 2:35p pst ) and they are off the clock..  Too bad my issue with my scanner doesn't get a break too!  🙂  We'll see what happens tomorrow...  I see more hours of tech support in my future!

@jc1234 ;

When your on with Tech support for 8 hrs ask them why they do not have a video showing how to connect it to each of their listed COMPATIBLE devices.  With all the different settings you would or may have to change.  This would save so much time for us business owners when we purchase a "compatible" device and try to connect it to a device.  When I bought the DS6707 it was not listed as compatible, but it did work just by plugging it into my Square Stand.  There are other devices that are Square Compatible that people have trouble setting up and getting to work as advertised.  For example the Scale to print out pre-priced barcode labels.  I know for awhile Square was stating the DS6707 was not compatible with Android, but I see they have it as Compatible now.

@Candlestore Thanks Keith...  I don't know why i keep wasting my time with their tech support.  they keep on asking me the same questions and not providing any new things to try.  it's insulting to my 30 years in IT.  Their tech support depth is very shallow.

From what I see, the android app is NOT compatible with the DS6707.  Looks like it's an issue with android recognizing it as a keyboard ( or the wrong keyboard ).  I have another scanner that works fine and does not prompt to set my keyboard settings.

Interesting to see you said it was not compatible before and now it is.  I asked their tech support a simple question..  What hardware was used to certify this all works together ?  e.g. scanner model, phone, android version, otg adapter, etc.  I assume somebody in engineering actually documented a working configuration before they randomly state things are compatible on their website.  That's engineering 101.  But nobody can give me a response.  LOL!

On the plus side, the DS6707 works with my square register as expected..  So I can at least use it there.  I'll probably have to get another square stand to use the scanner in the other location i wanted to use my android app.

Just bothers me square would put very wrong information on their web site.  The more I use square, the more bizarre things I uncover.  Lots of gremlins in their web site and integrations.  They need a good QA round!

Hopefully, they will transfer a million dollars into my account by accident.  🙂
