How to redeem Square Online coupon code on POS?

Hi there,

We issue coupon codes to customers through Square Online (Weebly) for various reasons.  Most of the time, they redeem them while ordering online, but sometimes they call and wish to place their order over the phone.  

We'd like to be able to use the Coupon Code we created for them when we ring up their phone orders using our Square POS.  Is there a way to do this?

As of right now, Square Online coupons and Square discounts are two separate things. Meaning if you create a Square Online coupon, it cannot be used on the POS, and if you create a Square discount, it won't be usable online.

The best way to deal with this is to create both a coupon and a discount that is the same, and redeemable in both areas! Hope that works ⚡️ and sorry for confusion!

Hi there, Where are we with this? Are the 2 entities still seperate? pos- discount and online coupon? the discount in store doesnt work as they still have access to the coupon code for online and can end up getting double discount if they are smart. Are we at the point where the coupon can be used for instore? thank you

Yes, these are still two separate functions, however, the team is still hard at work to bring the two together. I apologize that I'm not able to provide an exact ETA, but I promise we will update these threads as soon as we get the approval to do so.

21 June 2022 - Laurie_ says "This feature request is still on our radar."

So a whole 18 months after the feature was requested, the team is still "hard at work" doing it? I doubt that.

It would be much better to just say "this isn't possible" instead of just saying "it will be added but we don't know when". At least that way, new customers of Square can make a better judgment about whether it's the right platform for them or not.

Just to make sure we are understanding you correctly, are you inquiring about coupons with written words and text in them? or rather, are you looking to enter discounts sent by text message?

If you're looking for the former, text-based coupons are only available for the Online Store as mentioned in Isabelle's Best Answer. If there is a coupon code you use for Online Sellers and you'd like to apply it to a sale in-person, you can use a percentage discount manually at checkout.

I second the feature request. Square pushes us to send coupon codes for text sign ups but we can't redeem in POS? That becomes confusing for a shop owner...

Hello all.
We created an online coupon.

Customers can redeem it online with no problem.

How can they use that coupon when they physically come to our store?

At the checkout we can only see the other payment options as cash, gift card and certificate, etc.

Square Online coupons are not redeemable in-person through the POS unfortunately. Best route to take is creating a discount.

Hello Square and Moderators...

This is an important feature request for many sellers. Please add my vote to have this Square Online Coupons usable on in-person sales entered into our Square POS/Register.

We want to offer a coupon for a free drink to the first 100 customers. I can do this with Square Online Coupons but cannot do this (without manual tracking) using Discounts.

I will test using a Square Online Coupon code on my Square POS (Register) with the method that @NFChung posted above and reply back to this post with the results.
