Device name not showing up on reports

Why are my device names not showing up on the Drawer Report that is printed out from the register OR in the Cash Drawer report in the Dashboard?  I was advised to sign into the square app on the iPad (which I did for all 42 of my drawers), and this did not fix the problem.  I run both Retail and Restaurant app and the device name shows up a iPad.  Each iPad has it's own unique name that matches the Device Name in Square.

Hi @Kym2.  I just did a test open/close of a cash drawer.  And, like you, my reports say “iPad.”  Thinking this was odd, I went to my iPad’s settings and found out that the device name had been changed.  Most likely, this happened when I upgraded to iPadOS17.  I just didn’t notice it before now.  This happened to me at least one other time after a major iPadOS upgrade.

 

Anyway, go check your iPad’s settings.  I’m betting you’ll find they all have mysteriously changed to “iPad.”  Ugh times 42, if so!

Thanks for responding.  I did exactly that for all 42 registers.  The iPads are named the same as the Device Nickname in the Dashboard, and I was also advised to go into the app settings - Hardware - Device Name and add the name there (which I did last night).  Interesting enough, I found 2 ipads that were not updated to the latest version of Square and that option was not on that older version.  Adding the device name there did not fix the problem.  So, the device names are in 3 different places, but not on my cash drawer report printed out at the end of the day or in the Cash Drawer report in the dashboard.

I have both my Ipad stands named  1 is CCandCash the other is CConly.  My reports are all showing Ipad and does not reflect the name assigned in the Ipads Ios settings.  I had my wife check to see if the names got changed after we updated to IOS 17.  She read the names off as CCandCash and CConly on the Ipads Screens under Settings > General > About > Name.   So even after the update my device names stayed.  So I looked at all my reports and for the last year my Device has only showed Ipad for all transactions not the device name in my csv exported files.  I am even in a Beta Test group for Device Profiles and thought I brought this up to them.  Now on my Device List it shows the CCandCash and CConly names but not for my reporting.

Now on my Square Dashboard I can look at my Sales Summary and Filter by Device nickname that was assigned in Square and can export that. I chose display by Device Nickname... scroll down and you can see it by device in your dashboard or export it while its grouped by device.

When your on a computer follow the link below then filter by Device nickname.

You can also export this to a csv file.

Thank you for responding.  This is helpful if I only wanted to know the total sales, however it does not give me the information I need to balance the cash drawer.  It seems like a simple thing that if I sign in with the device code that coincides with a device name that all reports that go along with that device would include the name of the device - at least if I am printing the drawer report directly from the device.

Oh I agree.  Not sure why Square gives us Device codes and Names and then does not show those easy to associate names we create in any of our Reports or especially the Cash drawer report.
