My square terminal changed the UI setup last night and now ALL the square functions seem to be ported to the terminal (and not just available via the web portal). This is very bad for me.
Is there a way to go back to just having the standard checkout, items, reports in Terminal? Where are the settings that control what is accessible in Square terminal?
Added detail: Previously, the square terminal required a team pin to login and then checkout was accessible. Now, it requires the square account login and display all the account features that used to be restricted to the web portal. Team log in is a little button in the corner.
I do not want the team members to be able to access all account functions. How do I turn this off?

Hi @Brickworks. Are you using Square for Restaurants mPOS on your Terminal, or the regular Square POS? I’m going to do some investigating on one of my spare Terminals.

Regular Square. My understanding is that there is nothing changed from when I first set it up last October but it has gone through two visually different UIs on the terminal. This second one is scary to me because it also opened up all the square account settings that previously one had to log into the web portal to access. And it's not protected by permission pins.
I assume there is some control to set what is made accessible through the terminal screen.

Ok. So I switched my Terminal to the regular Terminal experience. Then I signed in. I use device codes to sign into all of my POS because then I don’t have to give out or enter my UID/Password. On my Terminal, the experience looks the same. But, I’ve always had all of the settings there. They are just protected by PIN, which you said in your OP is no longer being promoted for. Try these steps:
- Sign into your Terminal using either its device code if you use those, or your main userid/password.
- Go to More -> Settings -> Security.
- Team Passcodes should be enabled. If they aren’t, toggle them on.
- In the Require Employee Passcode, decide if you want to require a new passcode after every sale or not. You can also specify that passcodes are required when backing out of a sale or after a timeout. I have both of those set off.
- Go back to More, then click “Log out” at the top. This should bring up the passcode prompt screen.
Things should be normal now. Note that the restricted options will still be there, but as long as your Team Permissions are set correctly, restricted ones will prompt for a passcode override.
Let me know if this doesn’t work as described. Hopefully, the only thing wrong is that somehow your setting to Enable Passcodes got turned off.
