What do Jewelry Store owners use for Barcode Scanner, Printer and tag labels?
Asking all jewelry store owners - Do you use a Barcode Scanner to ring up your items on the Square Register? If so, which scanner, label printer and labels do you use? Looking for Brand name and Model # please. I want price tag labels that are small enough for jewelry pieces - Thanks~ Denise
I use 2 - DS6878 Zebra Scanners : These are both on Square Stands and are USB to the base the Wireless from Base to Scanner. I started out using DS2208 Zebra USB Scanners. These are USB from the Stand HUB to the scanner itself. They worked fine just did not like the USB cord getting hung up during Scanning. So we opted for the Zebra DS6878. These are both 2D models, so they read QR, Aztec and Data Matrix. To print these I use the 420 Zebra Printers, either Direct Thermal or Thermal Transfer. I use the Direct Thermal to Barbel labels out of Square. The Zebra printer software is free to use but if you want to use the Square CSV files you need to download the paid version of the Zebra Software. I like doing it this way as I am able to customize the Barbell label. Such as On Sale, Last One, my company name etc.
The DS6878 is about $75 on amazon refurbished now, and the 420 series printers are near $500 a piece.
I print 2D barcodes using Square to customize the SKU for each item and the scanner pulls up to price and the SKU. I then Paste the SKU into the area on my label software the choose the Barcode format. This format is similar to changing text from Arial to Times New Roman in any word processing program. I also add the Vendors ID to the middle section of the Barbell / Dumbbell labels so I know which one it goes on and applies to after printing them all out.
