Setting up a Gift Box with Multiple Products

Setting up a Gift Box with Multiple Products

I'm new to Square and I cant find resources on how to sell holiday gift boxes I've put together.

Each gift box contains 4-5 individual products.

I want to have one single sku per gift box, instead of selecting each item in the box at checkout.

Has anyone done this before?

Hi Joy! Welcome to square!! Are you wanting the gift boxes to have customizable options? Say, a customer can select one wine, then one cheese, then one cracker, etc? Or is it something else?

Hi Ali thanks for your response!!

Yes I want to do what you mentioned and one other option!

  1. Your suggestion - customers get a box, and can select from a variety of items to "build a box"
  2. Option two - I build a box with items and sell the box (no customizing on the client side)

For the holidays I'm selling a men's gift box. Comes with 4 different sku's. And instead of having to check out each sku, I'm wondering if there's a way to combine it all in 1 sku as my "men's box" to speed up checkout. Does that make sense?

From all the other question for similar Gift boxes there is no way to do this through Square.  What I have done as a small work around is have a "Gift Box" with Like a Scarf, Hat, Candle, and Soap Item in it and gave that a UPC code.  When I pull the Hat , Scarf, Candle, and soap Items I reduce the inventory then.   Which is a total pain since I may have a Candle in stock in a Gift box but out of stock on the Square System.  With QuickBooks I could have Build Assemblies which would take care of this in inventory management.  My other Idea after reading yours would be to put 4 UPC codes on the gift box to reduce the inventory, but then the pricing gets messed up.  We usually charge a little extra for the cost of the Gift Box since we sometimes use a Tin gift box and then some other packaging material.  It is not a big difference but there is a slight difference.

Thank you so much Keith! I'm going to try the workaround that you figured out, this is a great option. Super appreciate your help!

You are Welcome Joy!

I have a similar frustration--I want to sell items as a set with slightly discounted prices over selling them individually. As far as I can tell, Square has no way to accomplish this easily. I initially set them up as a set with variations, but then if one item sells, I have to set up the other one as an individual item--Square won't allow me to convert it. This is a much-needed capability.

Agreed, much needed feature.  Our most popular items are 'kits' where shoppers can choose their colors from our available inventory - meaning those supplies come out of our inventory just as if the customer had bought each item individually.

The "least-worst" solutions still require me to enter every product that could potentially be bundled twice, and essentially run two distinct inventories that constantly need to be rebalanced.  But since we have multiple kits, which can have multiple colors, in any combination, we end up having dozens of items that might pull from, say, the 'BLUE' stock - and that doesn't even address the problem of when a customer wants multiple BLUEs for the same kit!

Buying the bundle makes things easier for customers who might not know exactly what components they need, like those buying as a gift for others.  But it makes it an absolute nightmare on our end, especially when you do both physical and online sales.

Customization/variation/option features have certainly come a long way since the Weebly days, but it's still nowhere near the functionality of an old-school POS.  Only in Square does a customer have to specify each individual item when they order a fast-food meal, along with the right sized bag when they order it to-go!  And then the end of the night, the clerk has to count the number of burger patties sold - and it's not just one-per-meal, because some "meals" come with two sandwiches, or double patties!  Lettuce, no lettuce, bun, no bun, double ketchup... the consumer world revolves around "bundles" and Square has us selling fries one at a time...

We have the exact same problem. We are a baby boutique, selling individual apparel items but also gift boxes that contain 4 or 5 products. We also sell baby bedding in 3 pc and 4 pc sets. For all of these, Square does not reduce inventory for the gift box or set components. We have to do it manually. It's a pain, we sometimes forget, etc. Please, Square, set up KITS in your system. We need to be able to bundle AND have the individual items come out of inventory when we sell.

This idea is to be able to take items in inventory and mix and match them to make a gift set or gift box for sale and to keep track of inventory.  This has been mentioned with examples in this thread:

https://www.sellercommunity.com/t5/New-to-Square/Setting-up-a-Gift-Box-with-Multiple-Products/m-p/62...    Which I have the best work around or answer for but it is still being requested since mine work around is not the best way to accoplish this efficently.  In this day people who go out shopping a few and far between, with wanting the convenience of online shopping.  To help some retailers be different and convenient to their customers. Its always been a way to create something unique with your own products.  Maybe our customers may not be coordinated to mix and match our items to make their own or they may like the idea of just grabbing the Gift Set that is very attractive already.  We actually mixed and matched our items and our one distributor was in and took pictures to give his other customer ideas how to sell his merchandise.  Then he started getting requests for our gift sets from his other wholesalers.

Hello All!

Thank you for reaching out and checking on this inquiry, I know having a feature like this is crucial! There has been a delay in rolling out a feature like this for Square, but it does look like our Product Team is aiming to have it available next year. I do not have an exact ETA on when that would happen. For the time being an option is to utilize Shopventory. Shopventory pushes inventory numbers to Square and decrements inventory when things are sold on the POS or online. And you can create bundles on Shopventory so that inventory is handled appropriately for those gift baskets. Just a heads up it is a little expensive but if are looking for a solution right now that would be a great option that sellers do use. I know this isn't an immediate solution but hopefully this will work for now! Please let me know if I can further assist.
