Restrict an item to be shipped or sold in certain U.S states.

Hey guys,

I would like to understand if I can restrict an item to be sold or shipped to certain U.S states.

I would like to create a blacklist of states, and apply it to an item so that, when the user creates the shipment, it will not allow to be sold!

Please help!

Thank you,

Hey @helpfulperson

Yes, there is a way to set up the shipping restrictions to the United States. Essentially, you will be setting up a shipping rule for the country.

In your Online Store go to Settings > Shipping > Add Region.

There you can set up it up as you like.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Good morning @Kassi_ ,

I have applied the setting and its working for now!

However, I do want to apply this restriction on certain items in my store?

How do I do that?

Thank you,

@helpfulperson

Good to hear!

Specific shipping rules for items is still a Feature Request for the Online Store.

This is all I see. I just can't find a way to select specific states to ship to. Our shipping fees are based on the number of items sold. The shipping price is different for each zones (made up of a number of states). This is very frustrating

In order to add a different rate, you'll need to deselect the states you have in your current rate for the United States.

1. Edit the United States region, then click the button to edit states.

2. Deselect any states that you want to set up different rates for.

3. Save, then go back and add a new region and enter "United States"

4. Once you can select states again, you'll see that anything you deselected from the other rate is now available for this one.

You can't do this.  Once you have selected one United States, you can't create a second set within united states.

Hi @TRC2020 If you have already created the region, click on "Edit" next to the region name.

Then on the next page, click on "Edit Region" on the far right side of the screen. You'll then see another link on the far right that says "Select States"

Deselect the states that you want to remove from this rule to use in a new rule. Make sure to click "save" in the popup, and then click "save" in the top right corner of the page.

Once you are back on the shipping overview page, click on "Add a region" to create your new rule. When you select United States you should see the states that you just removed from the first region.

Please let me know if you still have questions with this.

This is incorrect.  Once you create a United States region, you can not create a second united states region using different criteria.  At least in my system.  We us RTS.  Once a region is used, it no longer comes up as a choice when creating a new region.  We have no option to select United States again, when we go back to create the new rule.  Thus, for the US and its territories, you are unable to create multiple regions and multiple zones.  You have the choice of all or to deselect certain areas.  That's it.  There is no way to create a separate region with the states or territories that you deselected in the first group.

Further, I saw this same reply in another area so had previously tried this.  I have since gone back in and tried again.  I have closed out and relogged into square.  I even waited 24 hours to try again.  As I said, when you go back to create a new region, the US is no longer provided as an option in the dropdown.

Again, this is incorrect.  At least in my system.  Once I create a region using the US and Territories, the system does not provide the option to create a second grouping with those areas that were deselected.  Is there a glitch in my particular program?

Did you click the "save" button twice? You have to click on save in the popup box after deselecting the states/territories, then you have to click on the save button in the top right corner to save the rule and return to the overview page.

What is an example of a state or territory you would like to split off? I can confirm if it is working properly in your account.

Yes. We did.  And it saved without issue and was there when we went back in, but the option to pull up the US again was missing.

I did check again today and will continue to do so.  It did provided the option this morning without issue.  We will see if it continues.  I believe there must be a glitch because on one occasion previously, when logging back in, we were provided with the option to select US, but, when we went back in later, it was again gone.  Did you happen to check this?  Could it be a browser issue?

If this works without glitches, we will be moving back to the Performance Plan because the RTS exposes us to too much risk of loss associated with incorrect shipping calculations.  We have a perfected flat rate system by weight and region which includes our material and handling costs so would prefer to continue to use this until you can actually offer an accurate shipping system.

Can you let me know which state(s) you would like to split off from the main US region?

Initially we were setting up the 8 zones, so started by creating a group with the territories, HI and AK, OR, WA, CA, NV.  But then it would not allow the creation of a second group.  My developer tired on her platform with some random states, and it failed again to allow the creation of a separate group.  As I said, I was then later able to go in and do it, but then again later, it didn't allow again.  There is either a glitch in your system or it's a problem with two separate browsers and computers (which I find highly unlikely).
