Online Store: How can I have a variation within a variation on a single item?
When setting up a online store, website platforms offer variations on items. I have found square only offers one type of variation for items. In clothing retail you can have several variations within variations. For example, you have a style of pants - let's call it Pants Style A.
Pant Style A comes in multiple colors- such as Black, Blue, Red. Pant Style A also comes in several different sizes- 32,34,36 38, and so on. It is very vital to have variations within variations. The reason behind this is simple, when you have an item that is the same style or type of item but has variations you need to be able to show those variations and track them for realtime inventory tracking when selling online. You can create a second item but doing so only makes for an overload of the same item on a website. When having a website you want it to be as clean and user friendly as possible. So having the option to have variations within variations in square will allow square to sync with website platforms more effciently. I have been forced time and time again to change website platforms because this feature is lacking in square. To find out that it has not been the website platforms issue at all. Finding that it is a feature square is lacking and badly needs. Please add this feature or inform me of how this feature is available all ready.

Unfortunately sub-modifiers like you describe aren't available yet in the Square ecosystem.
The only way I can see to get around it is to have your colors as the items under a Paint category. Then create variations for each size for each item. Inventory should work the same doing it this way.
As for the website variation issue, I use WooCommerce for my online side. After being quite frustrated with this exact issue, I reached out to Woo. Their recommendation is to build new items in the website and let Square import it over. That way any random issues that may arise will be filtered out and you can go into Square and "fix" the lack of sub-modifiers. As soon as I did this all my item creation went a LOT smoother.
