How to change the price on a item when creating invoice or estimate?

Is there a way to adjust the unit price for an item on an invoice for a customer without having to change it in the inventory management part? I may just wont to offer a different retail price for a customer but that area is grayed out on the estimate and invoice. Doesn't let me change it.

I agree on the Square for Retail App you can do a Price Adjustment.   For Display items.  Why can't you do that to adjust the price for an Item or at the Item level not to the entire Invoice.

Example:

1 Display Item---- reqular Price $59........  Price adjustmet for This item to $40

2 Regular Item ---- regular price  $130 each    no price adjustment or discount

If I used an Invoice discount all 3 items get discount applied, Price adjustment only adjusts the 1 items price.

Hey @layeredhome,

Just to make sure I'm understanding correctly- you're just looking for how to change the price of a set item you include in your invoices?

In case you want to offer certain customers a discount? In this case I would advise adding a discount to the invoice to change the price but keep the item on there for tracking/inventory purposes.

I would like to change the price not add a discount. We have an example where an item was marked as one price when the customer purchased it, but then the price went up and we are honoring that old price.  The retail price doesn't allow me to change and I was hoping there was a setting to allow certain people to override the retails. Thanks

Hey @layeredhome!

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community.

Hmm. Is this going to be recurring? Will you be the only individual creating the invoices?

If so, you may want to leave the item price as variable. This will allow you to input the existing item price each time in the invoice, and will still allow you to track the Item sales because it won't be listed as a custom amount.

All you have to do is leave the item price section blank:

Then when you search for the item while creating the invoice, it'll give you an opportunity to add the price:

Would this work for you? Let me know if not, and I can come up with some other suggestions.

Hi @layeredhome and @isabelle

We too need this feature. We have a catalogue of service based items (clothing alterations, eg "Take in waist of trousers"). Each item has a default price, eg £15, however occasionally we need to override the price in the Invoice because the level of work we are doing warrants a price increase, eg it's no longer £15, but £20. In this example, we therefore need to override the price when creating the Invoice from £15 to £20 however keeping the item's default price of £15 so future Invoices will still show £15 whenever the item is added. Currently, this is not possible.

Is there a good workaround? We can't use modifiers because we need to set a specific £ amount  and each time it will vary, eg £20, £22, £25, etc. It is not practical to have a modifier for item and every price as there would be literally thousands. If the modifiers would be allowed to have variable prices, then this would be another solution, as we could have a modifier that was "Additional work" and then we could set the price inside the Invoice, eg £5, therefore Item £15 + Modifier £5 = £20. In this scenario, it would be best if we could, in the Invoice, edit the modifier name an/or add a note to it too because "additional work" is vague and will therefore be confusing for the customer.

We would therefore really benefit from being able to override the price of an item to any value we choose, however, keeping the item's price in the Items unchanged and/or have variable price modifiers.

Of course, it would be helpful that there is a Permission that allows only certain team members to override prices like this.

Thank you.

same,  creating a variable item with no price will work, but with 100 items each with 20 variables I need to be able adjust the price selectively (while leaving the original price the same in the database).

if i have to use a $0 variable then I would also have to create a duplicate set of items - one set with the retail price and one set with variable price.

if i enter a variable price item i still have to go look up the regular price to get my baseline.

really really poor way to do things.

make the item's price editable. applying a discount to an entire order also doesnt work
