How do you consistently do a price check? Can you compare it as you receive inventory?

We have been running into a huge problem with prices going up on our products and not catching it. Is there a way to do a price check as we receive inventory? Or how does your business do a systematic price check? We are losing so much money, as prices are now going up $2, $5, sometimes even $10 and we don't catch it for some time and so are selling the product at the old, lower price but are paying the new, higher cost.

I typically compare as I'm entering new inventory into the system - that way usually it lines up ok - sometimes if I am out and a new shipment comes in - I ask the staff to hold it until we confirm so we don't accidentally undersell something. Most of my vendors will notify us a month or so in advance that prices are changing. My current business doesn't have a lot of items or SKUs so it is manageable for us on a per shipment basis. I am not a Square for Retail user but I believe there is additional functionality there - Item Library and Unit Cost Management | Square Support Centre - CA (squareup.com) that might be a helpful investigation or upgrade?

We are a bookstore, so it's difficult to do a per shipment comparison and, sadly, we get no heads up from vendors about a price change. If only we could see unit price when we are receiving inventory as well as or even instead of unit cost! That would solve so much! Instead of flipping back and forth between Inventory Management and Items Library to do so as we receive restock items. The article above is helpful for overhaul but not day-to-day needs, unfortunately. Thank you for trying to help us though!

Square for Retail people, can we add this feature of viewing Unit Cost to Inventory Management?? Maybe one of the little + options to view different material in the list when receiving or in Purchase Orders? There is already things like GTIN, SKU, unit cost, vendor, etc. Just add in Unit Price as well! Please please??
