How do I create a custom unit type to use in my Item Library?

The title of this post has been edited from the original: No option to create custom units

I need to create a custom unit for some items in my inventory. I click on Units, then Add a Unit. I understand from a support article that there should be an option to Create Custom Unit, but there isn't one. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Hi @TabbyTree - this one is easy to overlook!

When you're creating a new item, or editing an item, you can create a custom unit by simply typing within the Unit space. I'll provide a couple of screenshots here so you can get a better idea of how this works.

You can also add a unit type by clicking the Edit variation details link in the top right-hand corner. Either way, once here, you'll simply type the custom unit title you'd like to use, and we'll add the word Per before it for you (as shown above). Press Enter once you've got a Unit name that you like, and you'll get a pop-up screen that looks like this to finish creating your custom unit:

Here, you can also customize the abbreviation you'd like to see for this unit type, and the precision of the unit type. This should get you to a good place, but please let us know if there are any lingering questions!

When I add an item it only gives me the option of entering the weight as kg.  But my jewelry can weigh as little as a half a gram.  I am not using the inventory tracking feature.

Hi @KC_Ore Welcome to the Seller Community!

I've merged your post to an existing thread where Valentina answers your questions for you. Basically, you can create a gram unit, and you will need to expand your precision units to include the fractions that you want measured for your product.

Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂
