Help! Modifiers do not show in cart review / Square for Retail

If we have an item, say "ball" and it has modifiers for 'color' and for 'size'... I can add the modifier/s in item page and add to cart, however, on the checkout review page it will only say "ball" and will not list the modifier choices selected. In order to review the order with the customer to confirm we have everything selected correctly, we have to click on each item in the cart to open it and see what modifier was selected.... 

if we add a 'note' to the item > this shows up... so if they can make the note details show up, why not the modifier selection. [pls do not suggest variations as we do work with those, but there are some items that would have too many variations and we need the modifiers] Any advice? Thank you 🙂
