Employee Discount - Cost Plus?

Since we are a retail based business, we would like to offer our employees a discount using a 'cost + 10%' option for any items they purchase.  

Is this possible?

Hello @emtp435 and thanks for your question. I do not know if Square for Retail Plus has that capability; I think it does allow input of COGS which could be used in your scenario above, but I have not encountered setting up a discount like this. The regular Square POS has the capability to offer percentage or dollar-specific discounts, but you would have to first calculate manually what your "cost" is for each item.

You can only offer a % or $ off in the retail plus version. It’s a little surprising more thought wasnt put into the entire discount system. It may be possible, but we get coupons from manufacturers that have a barcode and it would be nice to also be able to just scan those coupons as well. And the ability to have more than one restriction on the application of discounts. Like you must be in this specific group and when you buy from this category you get x% or $x off.

I think this would be a great option for employee discounts, and am not aware of current functionality that accommodates this.   Perhaps this feature is on the development roadmap, or perhaps it could be considered.

Cost plus XX% would be a great way to make sure we aren't giving our employees a discount greater than the markup, resulting in actually losing money on those items that maybe don't have such a high markup as other items might.

Another great feature that we would like to see is an ability to specify items that may not be eligible for discounts.  Perhaps a checkbox on the item that excludes it from discounts.  For instance, when an item is already on sale, we would want to exclude that item from receiving further discount.

We also would like this functionality for employee discounts.  We are converting over to Square Retail from another POS that had this capability, but in Square Retail it does not seem to be possible.

Another possibility would be to offer a discount based on "Customer Group" AND "Item Category".  I could then offer a discount of 20% on my high-margin items and only 5% on items with only a little markup.  Currently, the discount option only lets you pick one or the other.
