Creating a Function to GENERATE New Barcodes in Square For Retail

Is Square For Retail creating a function to GENERATE bar codes? Not simply print existing barcodes that the retailer has generated outside of Square and imported, but generate new barcodes through their link the Dymo and Zebra?

One Square rep told me it is in the works and coming soon and another Square rep told me that reps do no have access to that kind of information.  Shopify, Lightspeed, and most POS systems have this feature.  For me, this is a huge waste my time currently.  Half of my stock does not arrive with barcodes.  I have to create a number for each product, enter it in Dymo, copy paste it into the POS, make sure it isn't already existing in the POS, if it is go back and start over.  It just makes retail sense for the POS system to generate the code via it's link to the printers.  Can anyone tell me whether or not this is happening sometime?  I would greatly appreciate the input!

Thanks for writing in @DMCStore

I checked in with one of our Retail Product Managers and they confirmed that this feature isn't actively in development at this time. Sorry for any misinformation you might have received in the past. Definitely let us know if any other questions come up.

That is quite a disappointment considering that I was told this in my initial phone meetings with a Square rep and I have now spent a good deal of time preparing to switch my POS system and website over to Square.  I ruled out Shopify when I was told this though Shopify does have this feature currently.  It seems like such a basic retail feature for any small retail store that carries items made by small businesses and artists as very rarely do those types of businesses barcode items themselves.  I would strongly advocate for Square to consider this feature.  I would also advocate for them to consider adding a couple other label size options to their Dymo printer capability.  Right now, they only offer two sizes that are large for any retailer carrying jewelry and small items.  The label 1x1 square and the jewelry barbell sizess are the most used for barcodes for small items.  Is there a way to submit a request or suggestion to the IT team?  Thank you!
