Can you enter an item weight manually if a scale is connected?

We have a small farm with an onsite store as well as pick you own on some things.  In the fall we have pick you own pumpkins which can be over the weight limit of our connected Brecknell scale.  Is there a way to enter the weight manually (bypassing the scale)?  On an earlier version of Square it was possible but now does not seem so.  My "work around" is to create a second PYO variation that has a variable price.  For tracking purposes it would be nice to not have that second variation though.

To confirm, are you using the Brecknell scale with an iPad with Square stand, or with the Square Register? If you unplug the scale, do you see an option to enter the weight manually?

Yes, using Brecknell scale with iPad and Square stand.  And yes when you unplug scale the manual entry pops up.

A friend of mine has his farmstand set up with the scales connected and you can not manually enter a scale amount as it will just fill it in.  

I think your workaround for large overweight items might be the answer for now, unless I am missing something.
