Can I scan an items SKU and it is not in Square can I add it as a variation to an Item ?

I sell candles and other items.  My question is, If i scan an item (8" yellow tapper) for example and it is not in my square items, I know can add it as a new item, but can I add it to lets say item (8" tappers) with a variation of YELLOW with its associated SKU?

Scanning an item barcode will not automatically create the item into inventory. You'll need to manually create the item as a price variation, name it 8" yellow tapper then add sku and stock amount if you're tracking inventory. 

Once the item is created, your scanner will recognize the item at checkout. @Candlestore
