Hey @MADBros-

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community.

Yes, Square does offer a Cost of Goods Sold (COGs) report, if you subscribe to Square for Retail.

Once you're subscribed to Square for Retail, log into your online Square Dashboard, navigate Item Library > Inventory Management > Reports > Cost of Goods Sold. Other reporting, such as Projected Profit, and Inventory by Category also comes with a Square for Retail subscription.

Let me know if you have any questions about this! 💭

Hi @SmartyPantsJane- Are you subscribed to Square for Retail? If so, it sounds like maybe you'd want to use a Cost of Goods Sold report, which is included in Square for Retail.

We have repeatedly requested this feature as it is important for any retailer to have this information at year end but it appears to keep getting overlooked. Can we please have the ability to download the report for theft, loss and damage for the year.

The suggestion I got today was to screenshot the generated report information. this does not help me. I need it on a spreadsheet to break down by supplier.

YES! I have been asking for years. It's really not a hard feature to implement and it is VITAL for accounting and inventory purposes. I can mark inventory as "theft" or "damage" but I can't obtain and use it later on? What's the point? Why would a store owner NOT want to access that data? I pay entirely too much for Square to tell me to take a screenshot (which is obviously useless when you need to calculate or organize) or to overlook such a basic feature that so many of us have requested. Instead you put the new "item lookup" thing with pictures, which is such an unnecessary "nice to have" feature that is only useful to people who have those items. The data export of losses is useful for EVERYONE. The time and money Square spent on that could have been used to fix basic accounting features we, the users, have been requesting for years and years and years. Stop trying to make Square "shiny" and start making it useful. If I wasn't so deep into this POS system, I'd have stopped using it ages ago.

Did anyone get any information on how to pull a report for total theft, damages, etc? If Square is going to offer a Retail version, then someone who has worked in retail needs to be on the Team! These categories are critical to track and report on a balance sheet. ESPECIALLY if you have perishable items in your store. I've been following a few threads but it doesn't sound like there's been a resolution...

I am currently on the hunt for this same report function.  I read your thread and see it was years ago and wanted to know if you ever found a resolution.  I have been trying for ages now and the best I can come up with is doing it all manually which as you and I both know is ridiculous!  Please let me know if you have found a work around or better yet the actual options we need!  Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

Hi @PorchLife, nice to have you join the conversation!

Did you catch Arie's response above? You can generate a Cost of Goods Sold report when subscribed to Square for Retail Plus. Once you are subscribed to this plan, you will find the additional reporting options available under Reports in your online Dashboard.

Outside of this, you can access to the free reporting options currently available in Square Point of Sale.

Hi @MSTAPLETON,

Thanks for writing in 🙂

At this time, running reports for damaged, or donated goods would be a feature request. You can run a COGS report showing Sales and Losses, if you have a Square for Retail subscription.

We'll be sure to share updates regarding this feature request here to notify you!

So we cannot see our thefts and losses we mark unless we pay at a minimum $720 a year.. Wow

Ha, even paying $720 a year there's NO good way to see this. It doesn't distinguish amongst the types of inventory LOSS.

Add me to this request - very strange seeing the age of this request, and knowing (especially in 2023, 2024) how theft has become a major issue.

Hey there, @BlackMetalMerc

Thank you for adding your voice to this Feature Request. Just to get some more information on what you're looking for - are you looking for this report in the Point of Sale version or just in Square for Retail?

Providing some more information on this request will give our Product Team insight on how our sellers would use something like this.

Hi, I too need this. A report function under reports would be good no matter if you have the retail or Square Online Plus Plan.

Anyone who runs a retail business and pays for a retail system such as Square should expect a simple report summarizing the amount of damages, theft, etc... marked out of stock. It's one of the most BASIC things we track as a business, big or small. Both THEFT and DAMAGES are an option when you adjust inventory. IT SHOULD BE TRACKED AND EASILY ASSESSIBLE. We use this information for tax purposes and monitoring merchandising on our floors, staffing, etc. Square keeps adding enhancements, but I have yet to see this simple one. Have I missed it? While I'm on the topic, I should be able to pull a report that shows my on-hands by vendor or category...instead, I'm finding that I have to export the ENTIRE CATALOG and then sort on my own in Numbers. Again, have I missed something here? Is there a Test Group, comprised of Buyers?

Has there been any progress on this request? Its vital for retailers and still doesn't appear to be an accessible feature.
