print order as items are entered

I have the need for items to print as soon as they are added to the check. That way the kitchen can start on the item (drink) before any other drinks are added.

Right now I have to hit the "SEND" button, hit the NEW CHECK button, type the customer's name, hit SAVE, and then click on the check to reopen it to enter another item.

My problem would be solved if I could open a check by typing a customer's name and then have the check remain open on the screen even after hitting SEND.

Alternatively, if the check would just remain open after hitting SEND, that would save some time and confusion.

Thank you.

We were wanting to be able to have a screen or monitor in the kitchen and our order show as we are taking it for faster preparation.

Hi @sonya65! Thanks for reaching out! This is currently a feature request with us, but you may want to consider using Fresh KDS which is an app partner that works with us. Here is a help article that may help get you started, but you can start using Fresh KDS under Apps on the Square Dashboard.

I've also merged this thread to an existing one since you and @Bcenigma asked the same question. Thank you!

Straight fire might work for this.  You'd have to create a new category of items you want "straight fired" to the printer.  Square has an info article about this.

I am new to square for restaurants. I have looked through the straight fire options and have set up a category... but I still have to press the send button as far as I can tell. Has anyone figured out a solution yet?

I am having the same issue! I’m wondering if you’ve found a solution since you posted this? I’m considering just mirroring my order taking iPad to the kitchen for now, but hopefully not as a long term fix.
