HELP!
This is the first time using Square for Catering jobs. You pay sales tax based off of the service date. Is there a way to find sales tax collected based on Date of Service and not based on invoice creation or payment date? All of our catering jobs pay before the date of service which may fall in a different tax timeframe. I need a report based on date of service. Thanks!

@buffaloharbor I am not sure what state you are in, but many times whenever the money is collected (cash based accounting) is when the sales tax is due. Even if you accrual base account for it, it would still be due when the sale is made. It seems that in your case either way you would use the date paid. Do you offer a refund if the catering is cancelled? or are all sales final?
I would definitely check with your tax attorney, but I don't see a good way to get a report based on the day you do the sale as everything goes around when the card is charged. I have not seen an issue where paying based off the date you collect the sale would get you in trouble with any state reporting agency as long as you are consistent with your reporting. In TN it is based on being due the 20th of the month after the prior reporting period.
