Modifiers are in a different order on KDS vs Point of Sale

The title of this thread has been edited by a Square Moderator from the original: "Modifiers sending to KDS in a different order than they are coming from Square for Restaurant app"

 

The picture below basically shows it all.


The left side is the way my modifiers are ordered in the Square for Restaurant app on the Square Stand.  The right side is the KDS after I send the order.

 

Why are these not in the same order?

I spoke with a member of the Square for Restaurants product team on this. They let me know that the Square Stand follows the auto-progression logic to arrange the order on Point of Sale. On your order ticket printer and KDS, the order is based on the order your modifiers are in, on your Square Dashboard here.

I hope this information provides more insight, but please do let me know if you have any additional questions.

Is there a setting that can make it the order that you have listed on your dashboard?  I have them ordered in the way I want them to be, but they are all in alphabetical order.  All of them have only one 1 required, 1 maximum.  Why even allow us to select the order we'd like them if it won't appear that way?  Can they get rid of the auto-progression?  It's really irritating!

Hi @_Violet .  Thank you for taking the time to dive into this.   The list you provided does help us better understand how the order of modifiers are appearing.   Unfortunately, this order does not correlate to the order that we ask the our guests what they would like to eat.  For example, when ordering a burger, side and a drink;

  • Would you like a single or double?
  • What would you like for your side?
  • What type of drink would you like?
  • What did you want on your side salad?
  • What toppings did you want on your burger?

I could site a few different examples, and some much worse when it comes to the order that Square wants to dsiplay these, but this is how Square is making me ask the customer.  It does NOT flow well.

 

What is also odd is that Square will allow you to rearrange the order of these modifer groups with the ONLINE functionality, but not with a Square Register or Stand.

 

Our previous POS system allowed us to rearrange the modifier groups by item.  It's gravely disappointing, frustrating, and operationally problematic the way Square manages modifer orders.
