Has anyone had a customer email replaced with one not their own?

A customer received an order confirmation with an unknown email address listed for their purchase. Has anyone seen this before?

I corrected the email address for her profile in our customer directory, but the unknown m.facebook email was on the profile. If an email confirmation went to the wrong or possibly fake email address, what precautions do we or our customer need to take?

Hello @daddysbbqfans 👋

I'm sorry, but I'm a little confused.

The customer did receive the order confirmation in their actual email, correct?

Was this order confirmation sent after they placed an order in your Square Online store?

Where in the email was that unknown address listed?

For an email to be added to a customer profile, it would have to be entered by the customer during an interaction with your business, like making a purchase in-person or booking an appointment online. If the email wasn't entered by the customer, it is possible it was imported or entered manually on the Seller's end by accident.

I would suggest for the customer to visit profile.squareup.com to ensure their information is correct there, in case the email was entered for a receipt to be sent there at some point.

This is definitely a strange situation, so if you believe information might have been compromised, reaching out to our support team would be best.

Thank you.
