Square Online & Restaurant POS - is it a good integration?

I've been looking at Square online, with the option of using QR codes for table ordering.

I have a few quick questions the community might be able to help with:

  • Are you able to include a 10% service charge to these transactions, to mirror what we charge?
  • Can the customer remove the service charge?
  • Are customers able to use their existing loyalty accounts, is it a nice interface?

Any other feedback on using this in this way would be really useful, it's a £20 per month add-on with no free trial option so want to check it works for me before I go through the setup process!

Hey @SimonH - I like seeing questions I can help with!

You can include your 10% service charge, a customer can’t remove this. If you’d like to have a charge that is flexible or removable you can set a default tip option - this can be amended or removed by the customer.

Square Loyalty is integrated into the online platform so if they use the same phone number then they’ll be able to use the same loyalty stuff.

I used online exclusively for my pizza van, using the QR codes for walk up orders. I much prefer being able to enter the table number myself rather than having to scan a specific qr code for the table. This means that those who don’t really understand qr codes or think their phone can’t do it can just visit a url and enter their table no. (Probably worth using a url shortening utility).

Hi Sam!

Thanks for the super reply. I think I will give it a go, not for all of our tables but for some of our bigger groups where splitting bills is frankly a nightmare!!

We used it previously on a different platform post covid and it worked a treat but we found smaller tables benefit from the at table service.

I didn't realise one QR Code was an option, did you do this with just a custom field for table number? (Forgive me if this is built in I haven't explored fully!)
