Can I use a rj12-usb adapter to connect a cash drawer to Terminal

Can I use a rj12 to usb adapter to connect a cash drawer with a phone jack to my square terminal via square hub.  I only see the $300 cash drawer that square says is compatible to connect to Square Terminal via square hub usb.  I don't want to buy a printer and I don't want to spend $300 on a cash drawer for food truck.  I would think there has to be another option for a simple opening of a cash drawer.

Seems there are different configurations for an RJ12 to USB Adapter, in other words, it depends on the devices and their functions - bottom line, not all RJ12 to USB Adapters are identical, some are internally pinned differently.   Square only supports what they say is compatible with their hardware.  So it's quite possible that what you have in mind may not work or won't be supported.   Just my thoughts of course.
