Hello I just signed up for Square Payroll. Does Square file my state sales tax (FL)? Or is that still something I need to do on my own?

@neoderek2005 Whether or not you are using Square for Payroll doesn’t impact your sales taxes at all. I’m assuming you sell goods or services that are subject to sales tax in Florida. In this case, Square does calculate the sales tax due on all sales, assuming you set that up in your account. But Square does NOT file returns or pay your sales taxes. You are responsible to register a sales tax account with Florida, and to file monthly (or whatever they require) returns and pay the amount due for that period. Square does provide you with the reports to help you fill out the state’s forms, though.
Since you mentioned Payroll, I’ll add that Square does calculate and withhold the appropriate federal, state and usually local taxes, and that they DO file and remit those for you in most cases. They will provide you with copies of returns filed which will be in your dashboard Payroll section. A full list of what Square files and pays for you for your Payroll can be found here.
Let me know if you need anything further.

We use DAVO (which is supported by square & integrated with our sales)- they file and remit our sales tax for us. What I love is that they actually pull the sales tax liability daily and hold it in escrow- that way we are never under the gun to come up with the tax money.

And, @DinaLRosenberg, if you sell to multiple states, apps like DAVO are time-savers and life-savers. I can’t imagine trying to deal with any more than one or two sales tax jurisdictions! Thanks for mentioning that. Since @neoderek2005 mentioned Florida, I just assumed they weren’t selling out of state. That might not have been the best assumption, so options are good to have!

Honestly - we started with DAVO day ONE even before selling to different jurisdictions because I didn't want to have to calculate my daily liability and move it to savings- it's what I used to do back in the early 2000s and this is just so much easier.
