Is it possible to disable card payments on the customer display?

Hello Seller Community!

Simple question really. Is it possible to disable the tap to pay / card reader on the customer display? We run a cash only environment but the customer display may give the illusion we accept card payments. Is there anyway to disable it?

Thanks!

Hi Sopfrie,

Just curious, why would you choose to use Square if your business is "cash" only?

Square is a Credit Card Processing service.  Perhaps if you would provide some more details concerning how your business functions, others here may be able to understand what you have in mind.

From our years of business experience, if you only accept "cash", then there's no reason to use a credit card processor.   Personally, we would like to only accept credit cards.  However, State regulations don't permit that.   Dealing with "cash" requires doing deposits and getting change and maintaining a drawer bank  - this takes time on a daily basis.  Accepting Credit Cards does have a cost however, this expense can be less expensive as compared to what it takes to maintain a cash bank.  Just our thoughts of course....

Hey Fiber,

The reason why we don't accept card payments is because of how limiting Square is on our business. We only realized this after using it for a couple of months now and made workarounds.

We operate as a Laundromat business and Square POS limits of what we can do. I already made suggestion post stating my problems and that the Order system has so many requirements that it is unnecessary

To combat this, in order for a pickup to be complete, we would mark the order as refunded. Of course, we cannot use the same concept with cards with the fear someone can claim their pickup is marked as actually refunded.

We love to give our customers the ability to use card but Square limits us from doing it. Workarounds are great but if there is too many workarounds, what is the point of trying to implementing it into our business? We already have too many workarounds and by this point, card payments is pretty much off limits for us.

I hope this answers your question.

Thanks,

Not sure as Square is the right fit for your needs.  Perhaps others here have some thoughts as to what will work for your specific needs.  Note: From years of experience, we have never found a processor or service that has all the features you have in mind.  Personally, Square works for us but, realistically it's not a one program for all.
