Hug your Haters: Your Favorite Quotes
Hey Square Readers,
What have you highlighted so far? We’d love for you to share your favorite lines and sections as you read Hug your Haters by Jay Baer.
What quotes have stood out to you? What are you highlighting or post-it note-ing?
Share any sentences or paragraphs that are meaningful and stand out to you, along with the page number. Or if you’re listening to the audiobook, post in a timestamp or a sound clip!
Here’s my first one from Chapter 1:
This quote really gets to the central premise of this book. By answering complaints online and in person, you’re creating the opportunity to solve your customers’ issues. Research shows that this has the tendency to take at least some of those folks that were ready to hate your business and never come back, and turn them into raving fans that will love and promote your business. By ignoring them, you’re reinforcing their dislike of you, and missing the chance to remedy.
What are your favorite quotes? Share them in the comments.

This isn't a direct quote but I found the premise of responding not only to complaints but also compliments in the first chapter an interesting thought. The why behind it totally makes sense. It's kind of a blinding flash of the obvious that I hadn't considered before reading the book.

Thanks so much for sharing, @bonny !
I completely agree that responding to the good is just as important as responding to the bad. It also helps with the positive reinforcement, so I think that some folks who are looking for an audience and recognition see that they can get it from complimenting too!

A business acquaintance told me that a few years ago so I started doing it, and it makes so much sense. We are all busy in day to day life, if someone takes time to make sure you know that they appreciated your good work, that matters. So that is exactly what I tell them! Thank you for taking the time, I am so glad you were happy with it!
Then if it was not public, I tell them how much I appreciate public reviews and send them direct links 😁
