Book Shelf Must Haves

Hi Book Clubbers!

My niece is starting her own business.  She is 18 and just graduated high school and starting a cupcake business while she waits to start culinary school.  I've given her my best tips and the book Profit First.  This is something she wants to do as a career so not a hobby mentality for her.

What 1 book would you recommend I send her?  She loves to read and does really well learning from books versus workshops and stuff.

@Doran this is so exciting! Also, how lovely that you're on the hunt for some books to help her in her journey too.

Have you seen the bookshelf that @Pesso has started? A LOT of great recs there!

Thanks @maxpete !

Yes, sooo many great ones on the list, and the links out to the ones we've read so far. Out of those, I definitely recommend The 1-Page Marketing Plan as a sort of one-stop shop full business management and improvement guide!

Also definitely invite her to join the Seller Community!

@Doran - Girl, Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis and Radical Candor by Kim Scott and Your Money or Your Life: 9 Steps to Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Achieving Financial Independence by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez - we use these a lot with our business mentorship group.

Thanks for sharing these, @MudFire_Dex ! I've heard a few people rave about Rachel Hollis' books, so glad to hear they get your seal of approval too! Oooh Those all sound fantastic -- I'll have to take a look and potentially add them to our Bookshelf!

@Doran Just wanted to say if she hasn't already your niece could go her local library and request as many books as she can on the topic of starting a business or starting a food business. That way she can browse books and take home the ones she wants to 'study' -- and save money. I find there's nothing more frustrating (and disappointing) than buying a book and then realizing that it's not what you need!

Best of luck to her!

I would definitely recommend the E-Myth and Worth Every Penny before she gets too involved.  Starting out right is so important!  She's a boutique business and she's all three people in E-Myth.  Having a very deep conversation with herself (and maybe a mentor) and putting things on paper before she goes any further is key!

@Doran 100% Profit first. Also any leadership books. I think building up yourself as a leader is first and foremost important. It's building those great leadership habits and character traits that will be super beneficial in the future. Especially if she is going to be leading a team at any point in time.

The Slight Edge is a great leadership book or Atomic Habits.

Not a book per se, but consume any and all Gary V as it relates to marketing/social media and how to build it from day 1. He does. have books but they aren't really necessary as he pushes out his content for free.
