I am using square on my godaddy website, I just added gift cards, but it seems as though it doesnt allow for users to use gift card for a portion of the purcahse and then use credit card for balance??
This is the message that I get when I try to redeem a $25 GC for a $75 purchase:
"You can redeem a gift card only when it covers the full amount of the order at this time. Any remaining balance on your card can be applied for future purchases."
Any help or guidance would be appreciated

Hey @Chicagosteakguy
If you're getting that error message, then it's safe to assume the gift card balance has to cover the whole amount when ordering through your GD website.
However, you can split payment in-house from your POS device.

Is there a way to allow an eGift card to be used when the balance is less than the total charge and the balance paid with another source of payment? I don't see a way to configure this in my online store.

Any luck with this? I have the same problem with a GC not covering the whole amount. Was hoping the remaining cost would be payable by other options..

@Chrysta You can absolutely charge both more or less than the balance left on the gift card through the Square POS or the Square Online store. You don’t need to do anything special to set this up, just charge the gift card normally and there will be a prompt to continue payment with card/cash if there isn’t enough on the card.
I’m not sure about using a GoDaddy website though, @Chicagosteakguy
@MC8 If you’re seeing “Clear Balance” you’re in the wrong place. You can’t charge a gift card by pulling up the gift card or checking the balance.
To charge a gift card, just swipe or enter the number of the gift card at the end of the transaction, after you hit the charge button.
What systems are you using, @Marquardt & @Leigan ?

Hey @MC8
So they purchased a Square eGift card from you?
Hmm, if you don’t use a Square POS how do you charge customers then?
Do you use other Square Products?

You can create a link on square to sell eGift Cards.
I do not have any other products - only direct with Square.

Yes, I know about the e-gift cards, I’m just making sure that’s what you did.
What do you mean when you say Direct with square?
How do you ring up sales and charge your customers for their services and keep track of sales if you do not use Square POS?
Do you use Square Invoices or Square Online or Square Virtual Terminal?

I only have access to this: https://squareup.com/dashboard/
I see the eGift cards purchase transaction. How do I indicate that it's been redeemed?

Thats what I’m trying to explain. You would use Square POS or Invoices or Square Online to process the transaction and redeem it.
How do you ring up or keep track of sales for customers currently?
Square POS is completely free and I highly recommend using that to ring up the transaction and redeem the gift card.

Thank you for that! I think what you're saying is I need to create items for sale, then charge eGift card against it.

Exactly - that’s how to fully utilize Square e-gift Cards, and Square in general.
And then you can fully track your sales too and do a lot of great stuff to run your business!
Let me know if you have any questions along the way.
OK. Thanks. I already have another POS - no interface to Square POS.
I may just do a simple POS on Square.

Always happy to help, @MC8
I highly recommend it, especially since you’re using the square e-gift cards, but also in general - Square POS is pretty fantastic.
Thanks! But I'm using a GoDaddy e-commerce store. I decided to forego the gift cards.
