Not able to sign out of Square Terminal. Message "You have 3 pending offline payments."

Not able to sign out of Square Terminal. "You have 3 pending offline payments." I do not want to process these offline payments. How can I delete these pending offline payments?

Second issue: From Help ".... you must reconnect your device to the internet and upload your offline payments within 24 hours of when you process your first offline payment, meaning you’ll have up to 24 hours from when you process the first offline payment to accept and upload offline payments using: ... Square Terminal."

These transactions were done at about 3:30 pm MDT on Friday. Today is Tuesday about 10 am MDT. The transactions are still on the Square Terminal.

Hey there, @eagletc.  You didn’t say this, so I want to confirm.  Are you saying that you have connected the Terminal to the internet and they didn’t process?  Or are you worried that if you do connect to the internet they will process, which as you stated you don’t want to do?  According to everything I know, since it has been more than 24 hours if you do connect to the internet the transactions will be rejected and therefore be cleared from your pending transaction list.

However, if you want to get rid of them and you can’t sign off, I would recommend doing a factory reset of your Terminal.  Of course, you’ll need to reconfigure and set it up again.  But that will most assuredly delete the pending transactions.

Thanks for your reply.

My concern is " Or are you worried that if you do connect to the Internet, they will process, which, as you stated, you don’t want to do?"

How do you do a factory reset? I used the Restart option, which is available when you hold the power on switch and choose Power Off or Restart - no change.

Step 4: Factory reset your Square Terminal or Square Register

The steps below require you to factory reset your Square Terminal or Square Register. Make sure you have the login credentials for your network and your Square Terminal or Square Register (device code or email address and password).

Factory resetting your Square Terminal or Square Register will reset your general settings (date, time, language, etc.) and remove any assigned Device profiles or Printer profiles.
  1. Tap ≡ More > Settings > Hardware > General.

  2. Tap About Square Terminal/About Square Register  > Factory Reset > Confirm Factory Reset.

  3. Tap Reset one last time. From here the countdown will begin and your Square Terminal or Square Register will reset.

  4. You can also Factory Reset your Square Terminal or Square Register by holding down the power button for 10 seconds until you see a black screen with a count-down timer.

  5. Keep holding down the power button until that timer goes to 0 and the screen says you can release the power button.

A simple logoff would have been a better solution, but at least the factory reset works. It requires setting up the terminal again, including updating the software.

@eagletc I’m happy that worked. That being said, in my opinion Square doesn’t need to make it too easy to wipe out unprocessed offline transactions. As it is, it can be too easy sometimes to lose transactions like that inadvertently.  Anyway hopefully this is not a frequent issue.
