Custom item description

I need a way to make the item note on Custom Charges visible to the customer so that a customer knows what they are being charged for. The way it is working now only we can see the note and its very frustrating for the customer.

The Retail team let me know that a fix for this issue was released in iOS version 6.40. Could you make sure you're on the latest version and let me know if you continue to experience the issue after updating?

ey @LolaandJack.  I went into Square POS and added a transaction with the note “test” to my cart.  Then I paid that out to cash and printed a receipt.  (Screen shot attached).  My note was printed on the receipt, as you can see.  Are you sure that your customers aren’t just overlooking that note, or were you referring to something besides the printed receipt?

When I go into 'add custom amount' and then go to 'item note' it says 'Item note (not visible to customers)'. so I did the same and tested it. You are correct it DOES come up on the receipt.  This could cause issues for sellers if they think they are writing something that a customer is not supposed to see. I wonder if Square is aware. Thank you for taking the time to respond to me, it is much appreciated.

@_Violet @JJ_ @RobynR @MayaP tagging to see if someone will check with the engineers about @LolaandJack‘s comment above.  I had to check ALL Square POS apps to figure out which one says it, and finally found it in the Retail POS (screen shot below).  I agree with @LolaandJack that this could cause embarrassment if employees are using the notes to say something that might be offensive, thinking the customer won’t see those notes, which they will!

Hi there @LolaandJack and @TheRealChipA - Thanks for flagging this.

I would assume that because it is noted in the point of sale "not visible to customer", it is not expected behavior for the item note to print on the customer's copy of the receipt.

I'm going to reach out to the Square for Retail Team so they can take a look at this and give us an answer. I appreciate your patience in the meantime.
