Hello,
When will the Card Surcharges Beta program be in effect? Or is there a way to register for it as a Beta user? Adding surcharges to each order manually is very time-consuming.
Thanks.

Hey there, @AndrewGully. There is no US-based surcharge beta. The only such beta is for Australian-based sellers. Also, a word of caution here. About a year ago, Square removed all card surcharging and notified us that any service charges that looked like blanket surcharges would be removed and possibly cause us to lose our card processing privileges through them. To my knowledge, this restriction has not been lifted. In fact, the screen shot below is from this Square Help Document on service charges.
It’s pretty clear from that statement that the payment networks put Square on notice that this needed to stop, or at least that if they were going to allow automated surcharging it had to 100% follow the rules, or else. Anyway, if there is some new feature in the works, it has not yet been announced, and it is not in beta — at least not in a public beta.
For the record, many (if not most) of us have gone the route of just increasing our prices to cover the processing fees. Currently my prices include a 4% additional cost-basis. Yes, all customers pay this, including cash customers because I don’t want to deal with cash discounts. In over a decade in business, I’ve not had one complaint. And, I actually make a little money off the deal, which is the total point.
If my answer resolves your issue, please take a minute to mark it as Best Answer. That helps people who find this thread in the future.
