Can the new Square Stand swipe magstripe cards?

Does anyone know if there will be a redesign of the Square stand to include a normal magstripe like with the first generation?

we swipe 90% of our transactions because our customers all start running tabs and it auto populates a ticket with their name. There’s no way we have time to type in all these names or use the wobbly, spinning square jack stuck into the bottom of the stand. 

Also, gift cards need to be swiped. And all of the credit Union cards are not touch pay so you have to insert and wait for all of those. 

This is a major design flaw.

Since most Credit Cards are either Chip or Tap type Credit Cards Square probably will not add a built in Swipe reader to the new stands.  You may have to go on Ebay looking for a Used 1st Gen Stand for the built in Mag reader.  I think this would be your best alternative to help you autopopulate their names on a Ticket.

Also thank you for letting me know names auto populate for Tickets, I also tried this in Saved Carts for Square for retail and by Swiping my Name autopopulated for the Saved cart.  I never knew of this!!

I double-checked the specs on the new version of the Square Stand. You are still able to swipe cards and gift cards, you would just need a magstripe reader connected to the Stand to do so. I haven't heard any news about us putting out another new model of the Stand.
