Can I scan a barcode using the ipad camera in square pos free?

I see that I can use my ipad camera if I'm on square retail but square retail doesn't do what we need so we are using square pos (free version). Can I use my ipad camera  to scan a barcode?

Yes you can.  Tap the box with a Barcode next to the search area, and this should enable the camera on the Ipad.  You may have to switch from Front to rear or vise versa for the camera.  Ipad cameras can read 1D and QR codes but I am not sure of which Barcodes the ipad can natiely read.   Code 39 and Code 128 are the most common 1D barcodes.

We have 3 ipads we use for checkout. I do not see anything like what you are referring to on any of our ipads.

Are you using square retail or square pos? I don't have that icon anywhere on my screen.

I started with the POS, then tried the Retail, and then used the Free retail app.  Then I upgraded to the Paid version.  Since the Free and Paid versions look similar, and the last time I used the POS version was about 2020, I guess things have changed.  I just also installed the POS version and can not see the Icon I had circled.

 

Basically I had to try the retail plan then before the trial ended I cancelled my Subscription and was on the Free for Retail, but that was in 2020 or 2021.

Only thing different on your Ipads is which Square Icon you tap to open Square, Grey for POS, and Greenish for Retail.

Thank you. I had tried both the free pos & retail but retail does not have "dining options" which we use because of ...we are a garden center on the edge of two states with two diff taxes. If we deliver and plant a tree to one state, it's one tax, if we deliver & plant to the other state, a diff tax. The dining option allows us to set that up.
