Remove Default Categories from Library

Remove Default Categories from Library

Having a set of default, unremovable categories that takes up more than 3/4 of the Library screen is untenable.  I'd wager the majority of Square users don't use Gift Cards or Rewards; a few probably use discounts and service charges.

We should have the ability to edit/remove/hide categories on the library screen.  As a Square user for both my personal business and as head (read: only) IT guy for a local nonprofit, being able to remove the useless-to-us categories would save me SO MUCH PAIN from volunteers getting "lost" because they hit the wrong category.

(Yes, I created a for-dummies document that a lobotomized kindergartner could follow.  No, it didn't help.  Anyone who's worked with people will understand...there's always that one person who couldn't find their a** with both hands and a map, who throws up their hands, turns off their brain, and wails for help the second they get slightly confused.  Usually while you're elbow deep in something else, but their problem is the most important thing in the world!)

Re: Feature Request: Option to remove "Redeem Rewards" and/or "Gift Cards" from

I know they added more unwanted items on the main screen, but Square thinks by adding the one grid to our phone has helped. We are at farmers markets, craft shows and concessions where speed is key. We have our iPad set up grid style that helps. When I have a line and have to use my phone one grid are area doesn’t help. Make the option happen to turn off unnecessary items. We are a community asking of Square to please offer this as a way to speed up our transactions. For the love of pete sakes hear our words! We need a toggle to turn off those unwanted items! TOGGLE SWITCH TURN OFF ITEMS UNNEEDED!

Re: Feature Request: Option to remove "Redeem Rewards" and/or "Gift Cards" from

Now the “new” home screen has 5 lines of unneeded space hogs instead of 2 lines of useless functions.  On my phone (which is the ONLY way I use square) I can only see two of my items, but I have two scroll up to see my menu.  I work farmers markets where transaction speed in incredibly important, every step slows down sales.  It is hard to fathom that SQUARE could make the issue worse than it was.

Re: Remove Redeem Rewards from Item List

Hi there!

The Redeem Rewards selection cannot be removed completely, however using your "Items Grid" you can customize what appears as available to select.

Head over to our Support Center to read more about the Items Grid.

I have been waiting 5-6 years for the ability to control what I need over what Square wants.  This is horrible service on their part with the same rep replies.

17 pages of comments or complaints and horrible pass the buck excuses from the Square Support (lack of) team.

If and when this happens I will ether

A. Be out of business

B. Be dead

I am 59 and both seem realistic as far as Square is concerned.

Why does Square even have a Forum or Technical Support allowed for six year old grievances?

Just think of how many users complain about this (probably 99% - any Square Employees using it for personal use) and do not even know there is a page and topic on this for the really serious users.

How about $1-2 back pay or credit for each month we have been using and gating this waste waste of space!

Shout out if your still alive , moved on to another platform or agree with me.

Square behaves like Microsoft...  absolutely arrogant & ignores customer feedback. Despite what the CSR say Square doesn't care what users like

@KenInNCsay because they reckon they know better!

SO...  keep the pressure on by complaining regularly. Some day we'll  find a viable alternative & then drop Square like a hot potato!

So true and one thing I have noticed are less and less square systems out there in the retail counter sense.

I talk to the owners and they usually say the program the use is adaptable to their needs and not as limited as Square

Meanwhile you can revert to the previous app version which "only" has two wasted Item lines (Redeem Rewards & Gift Cards)

The option can be found somewhere within settings, I think under Checkout.

You might like this option @KenInNC , @Wackym , @MamiesToffee , @cevmarauder and others. ( Links added to ensure everyone in the loop, hope you don't mind)

I want to be able to customize the Checkout page. We don't use or need gift cards, rewards, discounts, and service charges for our purposes. They take up lots of room on the top of the screen, especially when using a phone. If we could move the categories and/or items to the top, it would reduce the scrolling necessary to select items.Screenshot_20220930-173357_Square Point of Sale.jpg

Truly "fantastic" news from Square... today I received a delightful email from Square, ie

We want to inform you that on 8 November 2022, Square will no longer support the current checkout experience on your POS. All accounts will be upgraded to the new experience. Upgrade now to make a smooth transition for your business

Upgrading only takes a few seconds – if you choose not to upgrade before 8 November, your account will be automatically upgraded on 8 November.

To upgrade, go to your Dashboard and navigate to More > Settings >

Despite users complaining for years, Square is going to force their "upgrade" onto everyone.  I use my Square reader for a high volume of small $ transactions for a non profit organisation (charity) and any additional key strokes/ screen taps are a true pain. I suspect other users will agree with me such as @cevmarauder , @MamiesToffee , @Wackym , @DocA , @isjohnson , @natureinthings ,

Have pasted here my previous Menu (Library) and how it will now appear on my phone. (I only use my phone.)

Not sure what we can do except continue to complain as loudly and as often as we can. Maybe someday Square will listen!

You've got to be kidding Square! You've got to be kidding Square!

<facepalms>

All of my items are now completely hidden on the main screen.  I have to scroll down. Every. Single. Time.

Square Champion

It’s getting out of hand. Can someone please talk to the engineers that design and ask for a toggle off switch for items we don’t need or use!

SQUARE ALLOW YOUR CUSTOMERS TO REMOVE ITEMS THEY DON'T WANT!
In caps due to all our frustrations... we are now yelling.

Square is wasting our devices pixels, which leads to inefficient use of our/staff time, mistakes are easily made without the ability to remove unnecessary items, this all adds up.

Is there a customer account manager, we can talk to?
Square please respond.
