Beating a Dead Horse but it needs to be: Preauthorization

We need to be able to preauthorize credit cards when running a tab. Period.  We really enjoyed the low buy in and easy menu development and a couple of the other features, but a bar/restaurant needs to be able to run a tab and preauthorize a credit card.  I've gone back and looked at conversations about it and it appears that this has been a CONSTANT request by users that has gone ignored.

I'd like to know why it isn't available.

Pre-Authorization for Bar Tabs Update 
Hi everyone - I'm Hadley, from the F&B product team. First of all, thank you SO MUCH for continuing to share all the feedback here over the years, we know how important the Bar Tabs feature is. For anyone who is not aware, this feature is currently in beta in the US for Square for Restaurants POS.

I would just like to reiterate the pressing need for being able to swipe and hold credit card information for tabs. Now, more than ever before, this should be a top priority for Square in meeting the demand for limited/no-touch solutions. In addition, I was specifically told by our rep when our restaurant and market recently transitioned to Square that this feature was forthcoming. Let me stress that I did not ask about this feature; it was brought up as a selling point -- which means that someone at Square should be able to confirm that it's in progress and be able to provide an estimate of when it will be available. Thanks!

I am starting a business where i need to hold a refundable damage deposit, which would be returned in full if there are no issues.

Nope. 4 years and countless BS responses that they will put it in their que of possible "upgrades". No way to do it.

Yes, I was looking for this option to hold a damage deposit charge as well.

Please add us to the growing list of businesses requesting this feature.

It’s incredible that this feature has not been added yet- with Covid issues having to hold the customers card in a box until they close out their tab is not acceptable!!! This has to be fixed!

Come on square is this seriously still not a thing?  That original post was from early 2019 I think you have had enough time to get this figured out.  If you are able to store a customers card on file how hard could it be to store a card on a tab?!?

I would love this feature too.  Do you know if they are at least working on it? 

Is it possible to put a hold on a card that can be released at a later date? Like if someone rented equipment, I held a security amount, and then release it when the equipment is back?

We rent cottages.  This feature would be nice.
