printer/iPad relations

Does anyone have experience hard wiring the receipt/order printer to an iPad so that we don't have to rely on bluetooth connections to get the ticket from an online order printed? I'm having spotty communications to the printer (even though the wifi connection is strong and operating as it should, according to Century Link) and it's driving us crazy during the lunch rush since we have to turn the printer off and on just to reconnect. I've checked and unplugged/plugged the ethernet cable connections - no visible problems there.

It seems like from this post about connecting a printer via lightning port that it is possible to do it, though you'll want to check the hardware compatibility list to see which printers have that kind of connectivity option.
