Square Online Thinks Items with Variations Always Have Unsaved Changes - Can't Update Stock

For a awhile now, for items that have variations, Square Online thinks the item perpetually has unsaved changes. It doesn't matter how many times I save the item - if I go back to the item page and do nothing except click the cancel button, Square Online says, "You have unsaved changes. Are you sure you want to exit?"

 

This poses a problem, because it won't allow me to update stock on any of the variations in Square Online when it thinks the item has unsaved changes. The only workaround I have for updating stock on these items is to do it in the regular Square dashboard or the POS app. Items that don't have variations do not have this problem.

 

Anyone else have this issue? Is it a possible bug in Square Online?

I have been having this same issue for some time.  Since all my items have variations it happens with every single item I view even if I view the item and don't make changes.  This is not an isolated issue.  This issue needs some immediate attention.  I'm sure there are other users out there experiencing this and not reporting it just like I have done for months.

@WhitneyMailleFor what it's worth, I reached out to customer support directly about this issue and their response was that it's expected behavior. Here was their exact response:

 

Thank you for your response. The save prompt on items with variations even when no change have been made is normal behavior. This is just a safety measure to prevent deleting unsaved information and will prompt you to save even when no changes have been made.

 

I responded to that support person with the following, but they did not follow up after that:

 

If I could provide some feedback, this normal behavior is rather confusing for the user. Getting a prompt that says, "You have unsaved changes" in bold lettering when I know I don't have unsaved changes doesn't make a lot of sense. As a safety measure, it's also not clear why it would only apply to items with variations given that items without variations would also need to be protected from preventing unsaved information. Perhaps better wording on these prompts to reflect the actual intent would be helpful. Thanks for considering.
