Site categories vs. POS categories? Why doesn't it sync?

Hi, there's been a recent update that claims you can now maintain your POS categories and site categories in one place. This sounds great but I can't get it to work.

 

There's the link that says 'Get Started' in my site categories, and after it spins for a while it come back and my site categories have been copied to my POS categories.

 

I have to do some clean up since there are now duplicates but the POS categories do not update the site categories. I've done this three times and Square support is useless. Anybody have ideas on thoughts on this? Thanks!

Wow, what a colossal #$#@%-up. I finally got some info from Square support and apparently the site/POS category sync is not working yet for all customers even though it is advertised as working on the site. Apparently it will work at some point but not now. Who rolls features out like this?!?

Hey there @will6, thanks for reaching out with this update! 

 

I have seen our team roll out features to each market on different dates. I believe the thought process behind it is, if any bugs need to be addressed we can do so with a smaller group. 

 

Although I do agree, as a seller, this would be confusing. I apologize for any inconvenience and will pass this feedback along to our team.

Hi, thanks for responding. Is it possible to know when this feature will be available to me? I'd prefer to not spend a lot of time updating un-synced categories if this will be available soon.

How annoying!! I clicked the "get started" button which synced my online categories to POS, then spent a significant amount of time cleaning everything up, but the cleaned up changes are not syncing!!

I've just become aware of this issue as well.  I went to check 'Holiday' items online and they are not correct.  Items that I had "unavailable' are automatically 'visible'.  Categories include things that should not be in it, and are missing many items that should.  I get progress and change but $#%^.

This category merge has caused some serious heartburn.  In the web builder while editing the online category webpage, I can see item images as they would actually appear on the published site but the site building menu says there are no items in the category and only offers an option to create a brand new item - not add anything from existing inventory or rearrange the items that actually ARE classified in the category.

This is a BIG problem when there are over 300 items in the category and I cannot rearrange them without having to go back out to the dashboard, into the category and then move each one individually.  What's worse is while I'm trying to rearrange the items in the category, the drag and drop feature glitches and stamps an image on the page of the item I tried moving and it gets stuck even when I back out of the category.  Square this SUCKS!

I wish I had seen this thread before deciding to go ahead and make the change. My categories are also not updating the site and now I can no longer access the Site Categories page, as it redirects to the new way of managing it. This means I am completely unable to make necessary changes.

this is absolute chaos. I was on the phone with customer service over an hour and the only response is Square is working on "advanced categories" but he didnt really know what that meant. we have hundreds of items and categories and this has been a major pain. It is impacting our time and bottom line. They also have no idea when this will be fixed. i was told within the year. we are really considering a new system and eliminating square all together.
