Shipping cost for multiple items

I have checked the threads and have not found the answer anywhere. I have the basic plan. If I have a small item set at $1.50 (Fits in regular envelope) and large item that is set up for flat rate at $8.95, at checkout it combines the tow shipping cost when the small item could clearly fit in the flat rate box. Is there a way to set a rule to cover that so the customer does not get charged shipping for both items?

Hi there @jcsostore,

There are a few options forsetting up shipping that goes based on weights of an order. You are able to set your own rates based on the weight of all items in an order. This can work well when you ship within a limited area. This option will not take into account the distance to the destination or what carriers actually charge. You will need to make sure that you’ve specified a weight for each of your items.

We also offer Real-Time Shipping (RTS) with Square Online offers the most accurate shipping rates, and helps avoid under or over charging for shipping. Carriers provide dynamic, real-time rate estimates at checkout based on distance, weight, and the number of boxes needed to ship the items.

  • RTS carriers include: USPS, DHL Express, UPS, FedEx, and Canada Post.
  • RTS requirements include: Carrier accounts (we provide a master account for USPS and DHL for US Sellers), at least one shipping box configured for calculating rates, and weight amounts for all of your items that will be shipped.

Note: Using Real-Time Shipping requires an upgrade on your Square Online site.

Hello

I too am having trouble with multiple item shipping. I would like to make it so if my customer bought more than one item, then the higher shipping costs would be charged and they wouldn't be charged multiple shipping costs. Example, I have a customer that went directly thru me because she didn't want to pay $3.95 shipping per shirt when I could send her two shirts in the same package for $3.95 instead of $7.90 shipping. I would have lost the sale if she hadn't contacted me thru IG.

Any ideas??

Thank you,

Tammy Marshall

Hi @SassyT 👋 Thanks for posting!

Shipping can be a bit of a puzzle to sort out, but the ultimate goal is to try to get the estimated amount at checkout as close as possible to the true cost of shipping.

Can you post a link to your website so we can take a look at your current settings? Please make sure to @ me when you reply so that the thread comes back to me. 😊

HI Bernadettea,

Here is my link for you to take a look at the current settings for shipping: https://www.grow-with-sass.com/

Again, I am wanting to be able to make it so if my customer bought more than one item, then the higher shipping costs would be charged and they wouldn't be charged multiple shipping costs.

Thank you in advance,

Tammy

No, I didn't.

My apologies for the slow response. I'm hustling and didn't see this until now!

Your response was for a flat rate shipping and my question was for multiple items being shipped to the same location. I have shipping set up for 1-2 shirts, and then 3-4 shirts. When 2 shirts are added it adds the shipping X2 at checkout.

Thanks,

Tammy

Hi Tammy 👋 Can you post a link to an item that is adding x2 to the shipping fee? Based on your shipping settings, you have it calculated to charge per item, but I think it may better for you to charge for items based on weight.

I'm a little confused on where the "multiple shipping costs" are coming from, and it may also be helpful to include a screenshot of the shipping rates displayed on the checkout screen.

I'll be on the lookout for your reply! 👀 Thanks!

Hey Tammy! Just wanted to check back in with you because I believe your last issue description may be due to a bug. I'm sorry I didn't catch this earlier when I replied!

Do you see double shipping charged when you add 2 of the same item, but different variations? i.e. 1 small & 1 medium of the same shirt?

Thanks for confirming, @SassyT

I'm having this same issue. I have shipping set up for 1-2 shirts, and then 3-4 shirts. When 2 shirts are added and the 1-2 shirts shipping is selected, it adds it twice to match the amount ordered, not 1-2 shirts for one shipping. I've tried to fix it multiple ways now and no joy.  Is this still an issue almost 3 years on, as it seems I've seen in other threads? Come on Square.

I'm also having an issue with multiple-item shipping. It's set as 1-2 items cost $12, 3-7 cost $20, and 8- onward costs $50. But when we add more than two items in the cart, the shipping doesn't change. The change IS reflected when going to the checkout page and entering an address to select a "shipping method" - HOWEVER - the change based on an item isn't reflected on the order summary right next to it where the "place order" button is located. We've been trouble shooting this for a while and I think it's a bug in the system
